At time of writting, it is 10 days till the release of windows 7, microsoft’s latest operating system. To celebrate the start of the advent, I have cobbled together some screenshots of Windows 7.

Windows 7 vs Windows Xp

Currently, most people would agree that windows Xp is the best version yet. As windows 7 is coming out soon, I decided to do a quick comparison between the two. Here are the results:

Windows 7 minimum specs:

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Windows Xp minimum specs:

•	PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
•	128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
•	1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
•	Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
•	CD-ROM or DVD drive
•	Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

As you can see, windows 7 needs a lot more. So what does it give you for the extra hardware requirements?

Windows 7 features:

Windows snap – Easy window resizing
widgets (Without the sidebar in vista)
Full 64 bit support
Power saving improvements
Integrated touch screen support
Windows media player 12
Jump lists
Improved windows search
More efficient

My verdict?

If the computer is a home computer, and you use it regularly, then maybe think about upgrading it. If it is a server, or other computer that is for admin tasks, then I do not think it is worth it. Most of the improvements are for regular users, and you may not benifit from them. If your computer can already run 7, and you have free upgrade from vista, then definatley do it.

Windows 7 is like vista, but perfect. I believe it will be very successful!
